Technical language differs considerably from General German language. When we talk about Scientific German, it is clear that a chemist has a largely different technical language than an economist. However, there is an overlap – a vocabulary that is more or less relevant for all scientists.
Thanks to intensive research, we have in-depth knowledge of modern German academic language.
Scientists who learn German with us – face-to-face or online – can benefit from this extraordinary specialist knowledge.
Let’s take a look at the most important – most frequently used – nouns in German academic language. You can find them here:

Scientific German has the clear number 1 in common with both General German and Business German: ‘das Jahr’ (the year).
But in positions 2 to 12, there are only two more nouns that also belong to the ‘top 12’ in General German: ‘der Mensch’ and ‘die Zeit’.
Apart from ‘das Jahr’, Scientific German and Business German have only one more noun in common among the ‘top 12’: ‘das Prozent’.
